Technology as a Tool for Bringing Services and Research to Individuals with Developmental Disabilities, Families, and Communities

Wednesday, March 13, 2019

Dr. Leonard Abbeduto, UC DAVIS MIND Institute and Tsakopoulos-Vismara Endowed Chair, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, School of Medicine

In this talk, Dr. Abbeduto will argue that traditional approaches to providing clinical care and services to individuals and families affected by developmental disabilities are failing because of limited resources and barriers to access. He suggests that technology-delivered care may offer a solution.

As an example, Dr. Abbeduto presented data on the efficacy of his telehealth-delivered, parent-implemented language interventions for fragile X syndrome, the leading inherited cause of intellectual disability and the leading single-gene cause of autism. Dr. Abbeduto will also briefly outline other technological innovations being developed to train professionals and to improve diagnostic and treatment options.
