Department of Supply Chain Management

Dr. Narayanan's research interests include socially responsible operations in manufacturing environments, disability and language diversity in regard to team performance, improving outcomes for workers with a disability, and justice in chain supply relationships.  There is an urgent need to develop and understand an approach to better understand how we can leverage talents of individuals with disabilities in manufacturing and other service environments. The current approaches to understanding accommodations are based on qualitative analysis. I propose to integrate the value-stream mapping techniques that are made in the context of traditional supply chains with industrial engineering and time study methods and adapt those methodologies to create newer methods for manufacturing/services – i.e., operations managers, to collaborate with the rehabilitation specialists to better create an environment where individuals with disabilities can thrive.
