Patty West is an Instructor and Clinical Placement Coordinator at Michigan State University College of Nursing. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Grand Valley State University Kirkhof School of Nursing in 1992. Over the years she worked in multiple nursing specialty areas such as orthopedics, medical surgical, preoperative, and school nursing. As her passion and interests grew for nursing education, she received a Master of Science from the University of Michigan with a specialization in Nursing Business and Health Systems, Nursing Informatics, and Strategies for Teaching in Nursing. Currently, Patty is a doctoral student at Michigan State University College of Nursing, a Graduate Research Assistant in the RADD Lab, and her research interest focuses on families of children with developmental disabilities. She is particularly interested in factors that support and assist families with managing their child’s complex communication needs within healthcare and the framework of daily family and community life.
