Kellie Dean throughout his careers has always pushed to do more, to help more, and to help everyone around him achieve more.
Kellie graduated from Michigan State University with a master’s degree in school administration, and began his career as an educator and administrator in the Lansing Public Schools.
Kellie’s passion for special needs children and community service began while he worked with high needs kids at the Marvin E. Beekman center in Lansing, and eventually becoming the Director for the area Special Olympics, spending years coaching, fundraising, and taking kids to various Special Olympics events.
In 1983 the Council for Exceptional Children named him Outstanding Special Education Teacher in Michigan. During the late 80’s and early 90’s Kellie transitioned from education administrator to business owner but still focusing on special needs kids and community service. In 1990 Kellie co-authored the National Minimum Standards for Special Education School Bus Operations. Then in 1995 he co-chaired the National Standards for Special Education Operations, and was named the National School Bus Contractor of the Year by School Bus Fleet magazine. Kellie has served on the Board for the Association for Retarded Citizens, Chief Okemos Boy Scout Council, Lansing Area Safety Council, Marvin E. Beekman Center Work Activity Center, Lansing Educational Advancement Foundation, Capitol Area United Way, Ebersole Foundation, supports Special Olympics throughout Michigan, helped raise $1.5 million dollars for Lansing’s first Ronald McDonald house in 1999, and was co-chairman of a campaign for the St. Vincents Home for Children in Lansing that raised $3 million dollars.
Most recently he has been involved with former teammate John Shinsky raising money to continue building an orphanage in Matamoros, Mexico.
