Amalfitano is a board certified clinical geneticist and a trained classical research scientist. In his clinical practice, he regularly identifies patients with autism and the underlying cause(s) for their autism diagnosis, many of which are due to specific genetic alterations identified through advanced clinical genetic testing.
Amalfitano also directs a state-of-the-art biomedical research laboratory, which focuses on human genetics, gene-transfer-based technology development, and analyzing the interactions of genes with the immune system. This background provides a unique perspective to study the cause(s) of autism and associated disorders and develop technologies that may treat these types of medical conditions.
